Coimbatore is a major industrial city in the state of Tamil Nadu. Situated on the Noyyal River, the city of Coimbatore is also known as Kovai and Koyamuthu. The city has a growing population that currently stands at 1.6 million.
Coimbatore is also the second largest producer of software in Tamil Nadu and is known as the “Manchester of South India” because of its large textile industry that is fuelled by the city’s surrounding cotton fields. It is also a major producer in teak, coffee, sandalwood and natural minerals.
The city is also becoming another major hub for education, healthcare and manufacturing in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, it is one of the fastest-growing Tier 2 cities in India. In recent times, Coimbatore has begun to emerge as an education hub in the south with its prominent agriculture and engineering institutions.
